Choosing our Genre

After discussing Genre we decided to do Thriller. We firstly deicided to mindmap the genre to see what usually occurs in typical thriller films, we looked and different techniques and how they affect the film and the audience.

After discussing and producing the mind map on thriller our group decided also to look into The Genre; Horror. We created two mind maps on this then deciding this is what we wanted to take foward to produce our final piece. We felt this was a good decision as we found it alot more interesting and were able to look into more depth why techniques were used and what affect it has on the audience and film.

Preliminary

For our preliminary task we had to work in our groups to put together a piece of film using different techniques. It had to include dialog between two people walking in a room and sitting down. We used Siobhan and Romy to do this.

We also had to use a match on action shot. This was used by having long shot of Romy walking into the room and then a mid shot of her from inside the room entering.
We also had to include a shot reverse shot we incorporated this whilst Romy and Siobhan were talking this helped show the audience the relationship with the two and also to emphasize who is talking and when.

Producing the Preliminary helped us alot as we were able to explore with the camera and editing software. Although we had all used the software before we were able to expand on our knowledge and become more confident with it.

I feel this could help us in the future editing and producing our final piece. The preliminary task also helped us work in our groups to discuss and make decisions on the clip to achieve the best outcome. Looking at all areas of our preliminary and creating the high quality clip will help us consider the harder factors to ensure our final piece is at its best.

Getting Started.

To explore filming, editing and shot types we made a short film clip to help us put theese techniques into place and find out why we use them and what impact they have on the film and the audience.

This task of creating a shot piece of film helped us explore using the camera and editing. It also helped us see what shots had an affection the film and why. when creating this film we did make a few mistakes for example, when in the library a close up s shown of Me pulling out a book, it is called 'City Of Thieves'. As we were looking at creating a romance piece this book did not fit with the genre and had no significance the the audience or film. Although making this mistake we also noticed it. This will help us when making our final piece on getting everything correct and completing the production to perfecting.

We also explored with various different shot types. We found that close ups were extremely good to show emotion, this would be good for all different Genres of films however, worked particularly well in our Romance clip as it helped emphasize the emotion on both characters. Also Two shots worked exceptionally well in our clip as producing a romance it helped show the relationship between the characters.

All in all i feel that picking a Genre and making a short film opening helped us with exploring different shots, editing and using the equipment. It also has prepared us for putting together and producing our final piece, what factors we need to look and how they will benefit our production.

Time Line.

I have created a time line to help me keep on track on my production task. It is also to ensure i will be able to meet all my deadlines and keep organized throughout my task. The time line wil help me manage my work and keep in up to date and prepared for the final hand in.

Production Task

Studying AS Media, our production task is to make a two minute film opening, choosing the genre and editing it.

We have chosen to use film as we are all comfortable having different roles in filming, editing and acting. Using these skills we believe we are able to complete a well produced piece.
